The pericarp structure is investigated in the members of 21 genera of the Scrophulariaceae with the capsule fruit type. The results obtained allow to develop A. Weberbauer's (1901) ideas of the pericarp structure in the family, and to distinguish following types and variants of capsules on the base of the endocarp structure characters: 1) endocarp fibrous, either homogeneous or heterogeneous, 2) endocarp consists of both fibers and sclereids, 3) of sclereids only, 4) endocarp membranous, either completely or partly. The studied species of Calceolaria (C. suberecta) is distinguished by the heterogeneous fibrillar endocarp. The fruits of Paulownia tomentosa, the only species with the life form of tree, differ from other capsules by large dimensions and thick, multilayered parenchymatous mesocarp.
