О возможном нахождении секреторных структур у листьев раннеэоценового Paramyrtaciphyllum agapovii (Myrtaceae)

В ранее описанных отпечатках листьев Paramyrtaciphyllum agapovii из отложений нижнего эоцена севера Якутии обнаружены секреторные структуры (эфиромасляные железы) и пластиды со слабо развитой тилакоидной системой и включениями липидных капель. Проведено сравнение макро- и микроморфологического строения эфиромасличных структур современного растения Corymbia citriodora со сходными структурами ископаемого таксона. Наличие у раннеэоценовых листьев секреторных структур наряду с характерными признаками морфологии листа дополнительно подтверждает правомерность отнесения его к сем. Myrtaceae.

Название на английском: ON THE POSSIBLE OCCURRENCE OF SECRETORY STRUCTURES IN THE LEAVES OF THE EARLY EOCENE PARAMYRTACIPHYLLUM AGAPOVII (MYRTACEAE)

The imprints of Paramyrtaciphyllum agapovii Ozerov leaves from the Lower Eocene of the North Yakutia (71° N, 130°E) and the leaves of living Corymbia citriobia (Hook.) K.D. Hill & L.A.S. Johnson received from a greenhouse of the Komarov Botanical Institute were the material of our research. Earlir, a close similarity of the leaf blade shape, features of venation as well as stoma apparatus of the Eocene leaves with those of some extant Myrtaceae allowed to define a monotypic genus Paramyrtaciphyllum Ozerov with the species P. agapovii, and to relate it with Myrtaceae (Ozerov, 2000). Then, dark structures of mainly rounded shape, both single and in small groups were found out on some blades of P. agapovii leaves at crossing veins of 4th and 5th orders, and at the ends of veins of 5th order. The study of ultrastructure of leaf imprints of P. agapovii has shown presence of leucoplasts with rather weakly advanced thylakoid system and probably lipid inclusions of rounded or irregular shape (Yakovleva, Ozerov, 2004). These features allowed us to assume the traces of ethereal oil formations on the surface of studied fossil leaves. Schizolysigenous conceptacles are characterictic of the members of Myrtaceae, to which the Eocene P. agapovii is assigned (Denisova, 1989). In our opinion, the extant C. citriodora is most similar to the studied fossil species in arrangement of ethereal oil conceptacles. Cross-sections of C. citriodora mature leaves demonstrate that the glands are large elongate-elliptic subepidermal secretory organs. The conceptacle tapetum is formed by 2-3 lines of cells. the internal one being obliterated. The central cavity of the conceptacles is not stained with toluidine blue, and apparently is taken by volatile fractions of the secretion. It is visible on the cross-sections of C. citriodora that the secretory organs can break off from the leaf blade. Probably, the same thing took place on the P. agapovii leaves, and the observed dark rounded formations are places of attachment of secretory conceptacles. Thus, the secretory organs similar to those of C. citriodora probably developed above the leaf surface of Eocene members of Myrtaceae, in particular P. agapovii. The observed leucoplast-like plastids were most likely located at the base of the secretory organs in le leaf mesophyll cells. The probable presence of secretory organs (possibly ethereal oil glands peculiar to extant Myrtaceae) in the Early Eocene taxon alongside with characteristic features of its leaf macro- and micromorphology, gives additional evidence in favor of treatment this fossil taxon within Myrtaceae.
